The drift market just keeps getting bigger and bigger with drivers tricking out their cars with scale parts like lights, mirrors, decal sets and even ‘smoking’ tires. While it still may be a bit of a niche area, the guys (and gals) that do it are deep into it! This means that even though their numbers are small in comparison to the entire market, they’re style and building skills keep them near the top of truly awesome looking vehicles.
Because of this, I knew that a drift car would have to be in the Eat. Sleep. RC. list of giveaways, so this month we’ll be handing out one of the more popular chassis’, the Sakura D4. This drifter comes in two chassis styles – an AWD (All-Wheel-Drive) version and a RWD (Rear-Wheel-Drive) version. While I’m not sure who will be getting this car (seasoned driver or first time RC’er), I’m going to be building out the AWD version simply because it’s much easier to learn and drive on. Let’s take a quick look at this ride.
This car comes loaded with the latest and greatest drift-spec options – a centrally mounted battery for balance, rear-mounted motor with up-and-over belt system and fluid-filled front and locked differential in the rear. There’s also the threaded, coil-over shocks, highly tuneable suspension system and, of course, the amazing amount of steering throw (65°!) in the front to help guide the car through fast drifts.
On top of all that, we’re going to be stuffing this ride with some high-end parts from Futaba, ABC Hobby, HPI, Team Novak and ProTek RC.
