Tamiya Super Avante TD4 Video Build

The new Tamiya Super Avante is here! This 4WD buggy is a ‘2021’ version of the iconic Avante initially released back in 1988. It features a 4WD shaft-driven drivetrain, inboard front shocks, full ball bearings, ball differentials and a cool body complete with front and rear fenders!

This video is a full unboxing of the Super Avante, digging into all the parts and hardware bags to give you and in-depth look at this new ride!

We’ll also be uploading a full series of videos on the build as well as hop-up options and on-track action!

Tamiya Super Avante TD4 Video Build – Part 1

Welcome to Part 1 of the Tamiya Super Avante online video build. The Super Avante is the 2021 version of the original Avante released back in 1988. Features include a shaft-drive 4WD system, inboard front shocks, 4-wheel independent suspension, ball differentials and even a driver figure!

In this video we go over the tools you’ll need to build this car as well as the assembly of the rear gearbox and rear suspension.

We also install our motor, in this case a R1 Wurks 17.5T brushless motor designed for racing!

Tamiya Super Avante TD4 Video Build – Part 2

Welcome to Part 2 of the Tamiya Super Avante online video build. In this video we continue with the rear end of the car, assembling and installing the rear shocks, battery tray and servo.

Note that the Super Avante does require a low-profile servo, something I thankfully had lying around. I do show the install of a full-size servo before realizing it wasn’t going to fit.

Welcome everyone to Part 4 of the Tamiya Super Avante online video build. In this video we’re wrapping up the front end, installing the shocks, shock tray and the rest of the front suspension.

This gets the Super Avante to ‘almost’ running status – the next video should wrap up the entire build with the rest of the electronics, body, wheels and tires!

Welcome everyone to Part 5, the final chapter in the Tamiya Super Avante video build series. In this video we’re installing the electronics, wheels and tires, rear wing and the body.

We have to say that this was certainly one of the more unique and fun builds we’ve done from Tamiya and we’re super excited to get this buggy out in the elements to see how she performs.

We’d like to give a huge shout out to Tamiya for the Super Avante kit as well as Futaba, Pro-Line Racing, R1 Wurks and Sharkbait Designworks for helping us with the extra gear to complete this build.

Next up is some fun run time – we’re headed to OCRC Raceway in Huntington Beach CA for a day of track testing to see just how the Super Avante performs. Stay tuned!
