Tamiya TC-01 Formula E GEN2 Video Build
Tamiya’s new Formula E car rides on a new chassis platform, the TC-01. This is a shaft-driven 4WD setup that takes some styling cues from the TA07, so it’s certain we’ll see some great performance from this new racer.
I got our hands on a pre-release sample and am looking forward to building it but, before I do, I wanted to show you what’s in the box.
UNBOXING VIDEO
Tamiya Formula E TC-01 Video Build – Part 1
In Part 1 of this multi-part build series, I open up Bag A of my Tamiya Formula E TC-01 and get to building the lower front suspension arms. I know it doesn’t seem like a huge step for a video, but it was surprisingly tricky – more than I expected.
I start the video with some info on what tools you’ll need, some hop ups that Tamiya provided with the build and the electronics and wheels/tires we selected to be using in the build.
There was also a slight problem with our GoPro during the video. I didn’t figure it out until after all the footage was shot – a corrupt SD card was the culprit. I tried to salvage what I could – I think it turned out ok.
Enjoy the video.
Tamiya Formula E TC-01 Video Build – Part 2
In Part 2 of this multi-part build series, I work on installing the electronics and center gearbox into our Tamiya TC-01 Formula E ride. As you’ll see, I did mix things up a bit as far as where I installed the electronics, moving away from the manual suggestion based on how I wanted the wiring to look.
I also came up with a cool little way to easily remove the gearbox to change the gearing without having to solder and unsolder the motor every time – old school remedy to the rescue!

Tamiya Formula E TC-01 Video Build – Part 3
Part 3 of my Tamiya TC-01 Formula E build is a pretty simple one – I’ll be assembling the front and rear upper decks as well as installing the steering rack.
While there’s not a lot going on with the upper decks, there are a TON of holes in them and I show you which ones to use for the ballstuds, which ones to use for the rocker arms and which are used for mounting.
Enjoy the video.
Tamiya Formula E TC-01 Video Build – Part 4
Welcome to Part 4 of the Tamiya TC-01 Formula E GEN2 build. In this video I will assemble the front and rear differentials and driveline as well as install the front and rear upper decks.
I also cover a rapidly growing issue with the TC-01, the ESC mounting. If you are installing an ESC without a fan on top, you’re pretty much ready to go but, if your ESC DOES include a fan on top, you probably won’t be able to mount the front upper deck into place because of clearance issues.
I address this ESC clearance issue and show you an easy workaround that still allows the use of the fan.
Enjoy the video.
