This Week in Radio Control – F1 AE, Pro-Built JConcepts and a 1/10 Scale Van

This week gave us a six-wheel Formula car, another serious 1/28 racer, a prebuilt retro monster truck and crawler shocks that hide their springs. Apparently four wheels and externally visible suspension have both become optional.

Team Associated RC10 Custom Race Car 6x6

Team Associated Builds an RC10 With Six-Wheel Drive

The new Team Associated RC10 Custom Race Car 6×6 may be the week’s least necessary – and therefore most entertaining – new kit.

The extended chassis uses six-wheel drive, three sealed differentials and fully independent suspension. A Formula-inspired body, front and rear wings, diffuser and driver helmet complete its unusual appearance. Further inspection underneath reveals grey molded components, a blue aluminum chassis, blue aluminum shocks, heavy-duty driveshafts and full ball bearings. The kit is basically another version of their 6×6 Semi truck but with dark plastics.

It is available now, although explaining which racing class it belongs in remains entirely your responsibility.

Team Associated RC28F Team Kit

The RC28 Becomes a Formula Car

Team Associated also announced the RC28F Team Kit, a 1/28-scale Formula racer based around the company’s growing micro competition platform.

The car uses a machined aluminum chassis, adjustable rear pod and fixed-arm front suspension. Optional molded upper arms change camber and caster, while three included torsion side-link stiffnesses help tune rear roll.

A clear Formula body and molded wings are included. Motor, ESC, servo, battery and radio equipment are not.

The RC28F costs $269.99 and is available for preorder with U.S. shipping planned for October

JConcepts REACTOR Stage 2 Pro-Build

JConcepts Builds the REACTOR for You

The JConcepts REACTOR Stage 2 Pro-Built is a limited-quantity, professionally assembled version of the company’s premium retro monster truck.

JConcepts builds and sets up the 10.75-inch-wheelbase WOLF chassis, installs selected electronics and prepares the truck for final body finishing. Buyers still need radio equipment, a battery and a charger.

The $999 first offering has already sold out. JConcepts says another is coming, but has not provided a date or production number.

JConcepts Boss 2.2 Comp Tire

JConcepts Enlarges the Boss Crawler Tire

The new JConcepts Boss 2.2 competition tire adapts the company’s flexible Boss tread design to 2.2-inch crawler wheels.

Each tire measures 5.75 inches tall and 1.5 inches wide. The overlapping bars and tread blocks are designed to flex around rocks while the large diameter provides extra ground clearance.

The tires are available now in JConcepts’ sticky green compound for $33 per pair with inserts. They are aimed at competition crawlers, so trail-truck owners should check diameter, gearing and body clearance before ordering.

Vanquish Fox S8I Shocks

Vanquish Hides the Springs

Vanquish Products introduced its officially licensed FOX S8I internally sprung shocks.

The coil springs sit inside the oil-filled shock bodies, producing a cleaner scale appearance than conventional external springs. Vanquish offers 100mm, 110mm and 120mm versions, along with separate spring sets and rebuild components.

APlastics Vandura 1973 Body Set
APlastics Brings Back the Custom Van
The APlastics Vandura 1973 clear body gives 1/10-scale drift and touring builders a properly boxy alternative to modern sports-car shells.

The body measures 197mm wide with a 259mm wheelbase and is supplied clear for custom paint. At $55, it could become the foundation for a street van, show build or extremely questionable 1970s mural project. Lighting, chrome wheels and a detailed interior would make this a particularly entertaining scale build. Shag carpeting is optional, but historically responsible.
