While there are quite a few different categories of RC vehicles, offroad is by far the most popular. From buggies to Monster Trucks, these rides can blast through it all – dirt, sand, grass, snow! Most RTR versions come with waterproof electronics to help protect them from the elements and enough speed to pass your full-size car on the street!
We’re going to look at 9 of the Best Offroad Vehicles under $500!

Traxxas Rustler 4×4 VXL Brushless RTR
If sheer speed is your thing, then the Traxxas Ruster 4×4 VXL RTR should be near the top of your list. This beast-mode Stadium Truck can push past 65mph right out of the box (if you swap to the included high-speed pinion gear). It comes fully equipped to handle this velocity – aluminum driveshaft, heavy duty axles, 32-pitch gears, monstrous 4mm turnbuckles – all designed to withstand the brutal power from the VXL-3S ESC that is rated for a 3S LiPo.
The Ruster 4×4 VXL comes in 3 colors (blue, orange and pink) and will set you back about $429.95 – a great price for the performance this truck delivers!

Redcat Racing Kaiju EXT RTR Monster Truck
Another biggin’ to look at is Redcat Racing’s Kaiju EXT, a 6S ready MT that is designed to FLY! The EXT includes a Hobbywing 150A ESC and 4-pole 2100kV brushless motor to manage 6S power, if that’s even possible. Go-fast options on the truck include an extended aluminum chassis, 3 HD sealed differentials and an all-metal drivetrain to increase durability. Even the tires are belted to help prevent them from ballooning at extreme speeds.
You can pick up a Kaiju EXT in one of two colors – white or copper – all for a modest price of $459.99! Seems like a great deal to us!

Losi Tenacity DB Pro RTR
Losi’s Tenacity DB Pro is the second buggy in our list, however this one is a 4WD model compared to AE’s 2WD RB10. This one, though, is more for out-in-the-desert bashing fun! The DB Pro has a full list of Spektrum electronics installed including a 130A brushless ESC and 4-pole 3150kV 550 brushless motor that can propel this buggy to over 50mph (on a 3S LiPo)! To finish off the look, Losi specs the DB Pro with a killer-looking cage and body panels, massive rear wing, huge offroad tires and a roof-mounted lightbar. Just add your 2-3S LiPo and yank that trigger – this buggy is ready to go just about anywhere!

Traxxas Hoss 4×4 VXL RTR
While we already have a couple Monster Trucks on this list, we have to give an honorable mention to the Traxxas Hoss. This truck has been on our radar for quite some time with is 4WD setup, large tires and brutally powerful VXL system, it can attain speeds of over 60mph right out of the box. Like the Rustler, everything about this rig is designed for maximum durability and performance but stuffed into a Monster Truck platform. A large front bumper, oversized tires and heavy duty this-and-that are all included to make this one mega-tough truck.

ARRMA Outcast 4S BLX Stunt Truck RTR
Ok, yes, one more MT, but what we absolutely LOVE about the ARRMA Outcast 4S BLX is the fact that it has the name Stunt Truck in the name! We’ve seen one of these in action and it is insane! First off, the Outcast has a very short wheelbase, allowing it to do crazy backflips from a standing start. Big air is also second nature to this rig thanks to the powerful ARRMA BLX120 brushless system! An aluminum chassis, HD drivetrain parts and a massive center brace all insure maximum durability during any test flights or 50+mph high speed passes! This thing is a monster-amount of fun!

Team Associated Pro4 SC10 RTR
The final truck on our list is the Team Associated Pro4 SC10 RTR truck. This rig sits on AE’s Pro4 chassis and has high-end features like a stout 4WD drivetrain, fluid-filled differentials, oil-filled shocks, heavy duty turnbuckles and front and rear Short Course bumpers to help keep the truck healthy. Reedy electronics fill the chassis (3300kV brushless motor, ESC and servo) and it comes with some killer looking, high performance (and officially licensed) General Tire GT Grabber tires wrapped around Fifteen52 Turbomac wheels. While it may not be a full-on speed demon, the Pro4 SC10 will be equally at home on both a open field or at your local track – all for a generous price of under $340!
