Redcat Racing has announced their TC8-Marksman, a new trail truck that boasts some HUGE features! First off, it’s based off a 1/8 platform – that means a HUGE body, large axles with massive supports and strong MOD1 gears inside, 5mm links, 100mm all-aluminum long travel shocks and massive officially licensed Interco SS-M16 tires surrounding 8-spoke Raceline Avenger wheels (also licensed). Electronics consist of a 25kg Hexfly high-torque servo, Hobbywing QuicRun 80A Crawling ESC (3S LiPo compatible) and Holmes Hobbies 12T Crawlmaster 550 brushed motor.
What We Like:
Typical crawlers are abundant in the 1/10 scale, so seeing a larger rig is pretty freakin’ cool! On top of that, larger scale also allows for more detail, more crawling ability and more power – all 3 things we LOVE! The body looks really cool and is LED ready with included light buckets. I can see tackling some really tough obstacles that smaller rigs might get hung up on!
What We’re Not Sure About:
Well, a couple things. For now, 1/8 scale is not your standard size, so aftermarket goodies (bodies and especially sticker tires) are going to be hard to find. Secondly, while the electronics package seems reasonable (HW and Holmes Hobbies), it’s still a 1/10 scale system, albeit 550 sized, but could struggle a bit – maybe, maybe not. Other than that, though, I think it would be a really fun rig to drive!
